Day/Date: Sunday/March 26, 2006 Time: 4pm to closing Place: Attic Bar; 11667 Joseph Campau; Hamtramck, MI Phone: 313-365-4194 Donation: $5 Clarence and Curtis Butler were inducted into the Alabama Music Hall of Fame and were recipients of a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Detroit Blues Society. Their impressive recording list includes five Butler Twins CDs, their own LP and contributions to four other CDs. Although they left us several years ago their graves remain unmarked. The Friends and Fans of The Butler Twins wish to raise money to give them the recognition they so richly deserve. Join us on March 26th at the Attic Bar to celebrate the music and memory of these blues legends. Clarence and Curtis called this place home, literally, as they lived upstairs for years. All money raised will be turned over to the Detroit Blues Society for accounting and disbursement. Musicians interested in playing may contact Cathy “Diva” Davis at detroitsowndivad@yahoo.com or see her when you arrive. Special thanks go out to Cathy “Diva” Davis & The Soul Searchers who will provide the backline in the afternoon and to Motor City Josh & The Big Three who will do so in the evening. Thanks as well to all the volunteers helping with this event. Everyone is invited to bring a dish to share. For those who cannot attend donations may also be sent to: Detroit Blues Society/The Butler Twins Grave Marker Fund, P.O. Box 488, Goodrich, MI 48438. The Detroit Blues Society is a registered 501 © (3) non-profit organization. Join us on March 26th to make this a true celebration of Detroit’s blues heroes Clarence Butler and Curtis Butler. |

the GILES experience www.gilesmusic.com In this newsletter: Album Release Date Radio Play Name Change French Magazine Article Upcoming Gigs Dear Friends and Well-wishers, Album Release Date Hooray! The new album ‘Dancing With Dolores’ has gone off to be pressed and it will be available in April. You can pre-order a signed copy of the new album at the special discounted price of £8 including Postage and Packaging. So give me a call now on 01695 731897 or email me at mark@gilesmusic.com and you will have your copy before everyone else does. It will contain the following 15 songs: 1 - Maria Magdalena (Mark Koehorst) 2 - Freedom (Richie Havens) 3 - Letter To Bush (Mark Koehorst) 4 - Fallen Angel (Mark Koehorst) 6 - Dancing With Dolores (Mark Koehorst) 7 - Gypsy Eyes (Jimi Hendrix) 8 - That’s Why (Mark Koehorst/Piet Koehorst) 9 - Mind Your Own Damn Business (Mark Koehorst) 10 - Wanna Come Home, Father (Mark Koehorst) 11 - Behind Your Eyes (Mark Koehorst) 12 - Just A Shell (Mark Koehorst) 13 - Nutbush (Tina Turner) 14 - Bird On The Wire (Leonard Cohen) 15 - Yearning (Mark Koehorst) Radio Play Some of the tracks have already been played by various radio stations. I would like to mention Sue Marchant of the BBC in particular, who has been playing both Letter To Bush and Dancing With Dolores. Thanks Sue, you are a star! Sue has just set up her own private website at www.suemarchant.co.uk Name Change Every now and then a discussion is started about the name GILES. It seems that some promoters hesitate to book us because they feel people would expect a farmer with an acoustic guitar when they see GILES on a poster. So we came up with an alternative, ‘the GILES experience’. What do you think? Don’t worry, it will still be us, but hopefully it will give more of an impression of a band thing to those who don’t know us yet. The name on the new album will be GILES, for continuity. The website is all updated with ‘the GILES experience’. Hope you all like it! French Magazine Article There was a wonderful 4 page article of us in the French blues magazine ‘Blues Again’ (issue no. 4). Apparently it was available in the general shops and it is very positive. It has some great pictures of us from when we did a radio performance for ‘Horizons Blues’ in Paris last October. Upcoming Gigs The only scheduled gig this month is at the Sutton Blues Club near Birmingham, this coming Wednesday the 15th of March. Their website is http://www.thesuttonbluescollective.co.uk/. The venue for the gig is different from their usual venue, so make sure you don’t go to the wrong place! It will be at the Royal Hotel in the High Street in Sutton Coldfield. In April, we are off to France again. The following 4 gigs between the 14th and the 22nd have been confirmed, and we will probably pick up a couple more. Fri 14th April - L'AUSTRASIQUE in Nancy Sat 15th April - HOTEL DE VILLE in Villerupt Sun 16th April - LE MARAIS in Vesoul Sat 22nd April - LES MATINS CELADONS in Limoges For full details, please check our website www.gilesmusic.com, or give us a call on 01695 731897. For information about our gigs in France, you can call Franco Provenzano of l’Entr’Pot on +33 (0)382522970. ‘hope to see you soon…. Mark Koehorst |
