CORKY SIEGEL TO APPEAR ON NATIONAL PUBLIC RADIO
BLUES LEGEND CORKY SIEGEL TO APPEAR ON NATIONAL PUBLIC RADIO'S "WEEKEND EDITION" Multi-instrumentalist/vocalist/composer Corky Siegel will visit with National Public Radio's Scott Simon on “Weekend Edition” on Saturday, December 17. Siegel will talk about his two 2005 Alligator Records releases: “Corky Siegel's Traveling Chamber Blues Show” and the Siegel Schwall Band's “Flash Forward” (which was included in the “Chicago Tribune's” Top Ten Blues Albums of 2005 and was nominated for a 2006 Blues Music Award), as well as his inclusion in the recent Chicago Blues Reunion CD/DVD. He will also perform a song solo with harmonica. Corky Siegel has been bringing his critically acclaimed, blues-influenced music to worldwide audiences for four decades. His early years in Chicago's toughest South Side blues clubs with the Siegel-Schwall Blues Band, his solo performances, his groundbreaking blues-classical collaborations with conductor Seiji Ozawa and composer William Russo and his introduction of Chamber Blues (an irresistible combination of classical and blues music), are all a reflection of Siegel's wide-ranging talent. |

Montag, 26. |

| Dear Fritz, Holiday Greetings from New Orleans! That's right. After our over 100-day exile, OZ has returned home to the Crescent City, to our new temporary office and studio space at the French Market. It is good to be back. There is still no electricity in the studios in Armstrong Park, so we plan to be at the French Market for the foreseeable future. The move back to New Orleans is the first major hurdle for WWOZ. Many still lie ahead. I am sad to report to you that we lost our OZ truck to the floods, and the insurance will only cover a fraction of its replacement cost. Traditionally, our Fall on-air fund drive provides 25% of our $1,000,000 annual operating budget. Thanks to Hurricane Katrina and her aftermath, we were unable to conduct the drive this year.In addition to lost revenue, we've incurred extra expense to move the station and offices, totaling about $15,000 including some equipment and furniture that had to be replaced. If you are able, I hope you will consider a generous tax-deductible year end gift to help us make up for the deficit caused by the loss of the Fall fund drive and moving costs. You can make a secure online contribution here or call us at 1-800-817-1818. As you likely have seen in the press, New Orleans still has a long road of recovery ahead. WWOZ is committed to being a part of the rebuilding. Our mission has always been to celebrate the cultural diversity of New Orleans and its surrounding regions through music and information. In the post-Hurricanes Katrina and Rita world in which we now live, OZ's mission has expanded to include working to call back, reconnect and revive the roots music community unique to New Orleans. We must re-establish all that makes New Orleans so special -- a city loved for the spirit and creative genius of its musicians --and to share that spirit with our listeners locally, nationally and globally, through our on-air and online streaming service. Your generous support makes what we do possible. This Friday OZ plans to say a very special "thank you" to our good friends at Louisiana Public Broadcasting (LPB). The generous support at every level provided by Beth Courtney, Frank Kleinpeter, Jason Hewitt and the rest of LPB's staff was critical to keeping OZ alive during the toughest times, and we are forever grateful. To show our appreciation we'll have a little OZ music and barbecue party at the LPB offices in Baton Rouge on Friday, December 16th from 12 noon to 2 PM. Come on by if you're in the neighborhood. Thank you so much for everything you have done and will continue to do to sustain OZ. It is because of you and your generous spirit that we are surviving and thriving. As you consider year-end donations and holiday gifts, I ask you to please remember WWOZ. Your support will make a big difference and the gift of the groove is the perfect gift for yourself or anyone on your holiday list. Visit our website for more information about our program schedule, the latest news about jazzfest 2006, and a schedule of upcoming benefit events for musicians. You and your family are in our hearts during this holiday season and always. May we all share in a bright 2006 together! Yours in po-boys and pirogues, David Freedman General Manager P.S. Remember, the Hurricane Katrina Tax Relief Act means that you can deduct a much greater amount of your charitable giving than in past years. All that you give to WWOZ before December 31 qualifies! Further details about the act can be found here. |

Hi Friends,
The holidays are here! I hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving and took some time to count your blessings. No matter how grim things may look at times, we still have a lot to be thankful for. I've been having a ball, as usual, pickin' and grinnin'. I love going into new places and meeting so many new fans. I've always felt blessed to be able to make my living doing something that I love so much, and I want to thank all of you for making that possible. One of the highlights of my career took place in November. The Capricorn Rhythm Section performed at the Georgia Music Hall of Fame and I was invited to sit in with them. The band consisted of producers and players who were such a big part of the Southern Rock era. Lee Roy Parnell, Chris Hicks, and even Greg Allman performed and we had a natural ball! The only way I can describe that night is - "pure magic." I've been able to be at home for a while during the holidays and have enjoyed being with my family, friends, and pets. You know I love my pets and I've been having fun with my pet goats. They are so funny and sweet and have such distinct personalities. Getting back to the music, I've been talking with Koko Taylor more these days. I've been working on getting some songs to her for her upcoming studio project. She is so excited about this recording, and I'm keeping my fingers crossed that one or two of my songs will make it onto this album. We'll keep you posted! In the meantime, I'm hitting the road again soon for a couple of dates. On December 16th I'll be performing for the Blues Power Radio's Christmas party at Mr. B's on the Square in Ozark, Alabama. Then on the 17th I'll be back in Florida, at Bradfordville Blues. Then it's on to Chattanooga on the 21st for another solo acoustic show at the Tropicana Club. Come out and see me when you can! January and February will find me on the road traveling to Ohio, Florida, Michigan and even Canada. That will be my first time out of the country and I'm excited to get to see some of that beautiful country. I sure hope I get to see some of you along the way. I hope this holiday season finds you "Takin' It Easy." If you know someone in need of some quiet time don't forget about my special bundle pricing on my CD's. And we still have some of my photos for sale, too. Order today and we can get them to you in time to stuff their stockings! Again, I want to thank each and every one of you for coming to my shows, purchasing my music, or just giving me a hug or a word of encouragement. You mean the world to me! Keep a song in your heart, EG Feel free to email me at eg@egkight.com. |

Happy Holidays everyone! Some news hot off the press... IT'S BEEN GREAT... Our long-time tenor sax player Little Frankie Thiffault is taking a break from the music biz to pursue a Master's degree. Winner of a 2005 Lys Blues Award for Individual Performance, Little Frankie brought his 100% to my stage every single night. We wish him well and hope our paths cross in the not-so-distant future. He is an amazing musician and a great friend. Pianist Martin Gagnon is also leaving us to pursue his musical journey with the lovely and talented Jamie Wood. Be sure to check her band out live. Best of luck, Marty - we'll see ya out there! AND NOW INTRODUCING... One thing that amazes me about this business is the fact that there are so many great blues musicians out there. Well, we've been lucky enough to land two more of 'em... First off, our new tenor sax player, Frank Gauthier. Frank brings us years of world-wide live experience, from R&B to jazz and blues. He's a great guy to work with and is a valuable addition to the team. And secondly, we welcome Seb "Slim Wood" Dubois back to the band! Slim previously held down our piano seat a few years ago and now we've come full circle. One of Quebec's best blues pianists (also a 2005 Lys Blues Award nominee), and a great vocalist in his own right, we're happy he's with us again! ROLLING THE DICE - SPECIALS... It's your chance to pick up the award-winning CD "Rolling The Dice" for the holidays. We've even added a little incentive: If you purchase Rolling The Dice from our site by using the "PayPal" or "Cheque/Money Order" buttons before December 31, 2005, we'll include a FREE Kevin Mark T-Shirt (sizes subject to availability). That's a $20 value FREE. Click HERE to go to our store. Remember, you must purchase using the PayPal or Cheque/Money Order buttons. Please state your two preferred sizes (in case one is out of stock). ANOTHER DEAL... If you purchase two or more copies of Rolling The Dice from CD Baby, you'll receive a 50% DISCOUNT! CD Baby is here: www.cdbaby.com and our page on their site is HERE. Until next time, please have a very happy and safe holiday season. See you in 2006! Cheers, Kevin Mark |
